As a global leader, Van Oord has a long history in a wide range of dredging and offshore activities. Founded in 1868, the maritime expert is active in more than 20 countries with around 5,000 employees in 2017. For a challenging new offshore wind project, Van Oord was looking for the right partner for an operational transformation. Van Oord brought the Apadmi team on board to streamline the work process and centralise data storage. A smart solution needed to be designed based on the customer's challenges, with enough flexibility to adapt to a continuously evolving supply chain. Thanks to our expertise in process innovation and digital products, we have been working with the R&D department on a chain-wide solution since 2018.
How we moved the market
By developing iteratively, we were able to seamlessly incorporate interim changes in the project scope and Van Oord's IT landscape into the development process. Regular evaluations with stakeholders aligned the goals and the results. We were able to quickly create a Minimum Viable Product as the basis for the unique technology that adds value throughout the chain.
With a robust new system in place, suboptimal work processes and fragmented information are a thing of the past. All project data is standardised, centrally accessible and directly visible via the on-site app and in-office website – for all parties involved, at any time of day.
The solution translates the complex production process into clear workflows that can be fully customised. This extends beyond a single project - due to its extremely flexible nature, the solution is scalable to any other project in the world with a focus on sourcing and assembly.
The platform is the new cornerstone in Van Oord's point-to-point infrastructure. Internal systems can connect to the database via a custom API, automatically read information and use it directly with more optimised insights than ever before.
