The Wonder Weeks: A Stress-Free Guide to Your Baby's Behavior in an illustrated application supporting early years development based on the Dutch book 'Oei ik groei!' by physical anthropologist Hetty van de Rijt and ethologist and developmental psychologist Frans Plooij. Simply put, the application helps users understand why their baby cries - something that every parent instantly sees value in. Apadmi’s Dutch team also developed earlier versions of the app, and those have been rated 4.9 stars out of 5 in Apple's App Store (from 109.3K Ratings). It is the best-selling application in its category, and is available in 16 languages. After immense initial success, Apadmi developed the next iteration of The Wonder Weeks with a subscription model, community integration, and cross-platform account sharing. The New Application has been released worldwide and has resulted in an immense growth of 90% in revenue, 150% more downloads on iOS and a 100% on Android.
What we did
The Wonder Weeks and Apadmi formed a strategic alliance combining our respective strengths to build the perfect application to service young parents and to drive innovation while creating new opportunities. Based on thoroughly conducted user research and comprehensive testing the design of the app was completely overhauled.
Our development team converted the app from 'single-purchase' to a subscription model, enabling more flexible payments and business growth. Another notable feature that was introduced is the cross-platform account sharing. Enabling individual parents, grandparents, and nannies alike to contribute to the baby diary, monitor functionalities, and consult all the knowledge the app has to offer.
How we moved the market
We started developing The Wonder Weeks’ first mobile app in 2020, when we first became their mobile technology partner.
For this latest iteration of the WonderWeeks app, we started out with a comprehensive User Research project to take the guesswork out of design and development. This research uncovered a need for certainty and answers when users' own experience falls short. To us, this demonstrated a clear need for connection with other, more experienced, parents and a comprehensive database of knowledge. The product needed to make parents feel confident when taking the biggest leap in their lives: having a baby! The Wonder Weeks takes a candid look at parenting, shedding light on all sides and is there for all parents. The platform is also connecting parents, making sure they can help each other and learn from each other.
The final product provides The Wonder Weeks with the opportunity to keep delivering value, an essential feat considering the switch to a subscription model. Another essential feature when implementing a subscription model is a frictionless onboarding experience. We’ve tested multiple journeys and are continuously optimising with A/B-testing. Our testing for iOS was done in close collaboration with Apple, ensuring a seamless onboarding experience.
From here, we’ll continue working on adding new features that will improve the interaction between users, enable them to share (user-generated) content and build a more comprehensive profile.
